Nintendo Switch 2 Reportedly Revealed to Select Developers in Private Showing
As Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips has said, Nintendo’s “Switch 2” was shown behind closed doors to developers at Gamescom. According to the report, Nintendo introduced the Switch 2 as a “companion” that showcased the system’s next-gen specs by playing an allegedly “souped” version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.
Notably, there’s been no word on Nintendo’s end regarding the launch of its next main system — currently dubbed “Switch 2.” Of course, it could be different, but given the brand that Nintendo Switch has built for, in fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Japanese gaming giant stick with the “Switch” moniker and of course continue to offer a hybrid-style system moving forward.
Eurogamer’s report also lines up with a recent VGC report that Nintendo showed off The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo on Switch 2 at Gamescom. According to VGC, the said demo was running on Nvidia’s DLSS scaling technology and even had “advanced ray tracing enabled” comparable to the PS5 and Xbox series consoles.
VGC had also reported earlier this year that the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be released sometime next year in 2024 – almost seven years since the original Nintendo Switch hit the shelves. VGC’s sources also stated that the next console will have a portable mode like the Nintendo Switch – not following in the footsteps of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Released in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch became the third best-selling console of all time in February this year with total sales of 122.5 million units. It has a huge following thanks to first-party games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon games, and other classics like Metroid Prime Remastered.
