Parag Agrawal Dismissed Following Elon Musk’s Biography Unveiling Details of $44B Acquisition
When Elon Musk took control of X (formerly Twitter) in a $44 billion deal last year, one of his initial decisions was to fire X’s top management, including then-CEO Parag Agrawal and others like Vijaya Gadde. Until recently, the reasons behind Elon Musk’s decision to part with Agrawal were unclear. However, thanks to Walter Isaacson’s biography of Musk, it has been revealed that Musk was looking for a “fire-breathing dragon” to be Twitter’s CEO, and according to Musk, Parag Agrawal was not the right fit for the role.
Musk’s upcoming biopic, titled “Elon Musk,” is set to be released on September 12 — the same day the new iPhone 15 series is released. Written by Walter Isaacson, the book follows the life of a multi-company billionaire – including SpaceX – and his journey to acquire and control X (Twitter).
According to The Wall Street Journal, which shared an excerpt from the biography, Musk was quite fond of Parag Agrawal before and after buying Twitter. In “Elon Musk,” Musk is quoted as saying, “He’s a really nice guy, but managers shouldn’t try to like him. Twitter needs a fire-breathing dragon, and Parag isn’t that.”
After becoming X’s new CEO in 2022 and becoming the “chief tweeter,” Musk criticized X’s efforts to limit free speech on the platform. He even said that “the bird has been released” after the acquisition of Twitter and the firing of Parag Agrawal and others.
As for Walter Isaacson, his X account suggests that he has been with Musk at X headquarters for some time. “In the Twitter HQ coffee shop @elonmusk,” Isaacson posted on X on October 27, 2022. Since then, Isaacson has frequently shared Musk-related content on X. Walter Isaacson has also written biographies of other distinguished individuals. successful people including Apple founder Steve Jobs.
After the termination of Parag Agrawal – as previously mentioned – Musk assumed the role of CEO of X and made a series of decisions, some of which were controversial and others that were appreciated by users. And it wasn’t until June that Musk named former NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino as X’s new CEO.
