Quick Share is the new name for Google’s File Transfer Tool.
Google and Samsung have teamed up again after the WearOS platform and this time it’s with a file transfer tool for Android users. Google has used CES 2024 to announce a new look for the Nearby Share feature, now renamed Quick Share.
It looks like the company is making a change to unify the feature, and frankly, Quick Share is a better name compared to Nearby Share, which has served its purpose for the past few years. A few weeks ago we weren’t sure about the reason for this change, but the move to Quick actually makes sense as it ties in with Samsung’s own file transfer tool introduced in 2020.
Google has opened up the feature to Windows PCs, and with Quick Share, compatibility is likely to improve even more as more brands sign up for the file transfer tool for PCs, which may get it pre-installed in the near future, which is sure to be exciting. for many people using android phone and windows pc.
Besides the name, Quick Share does the same thing as Nearby Share. You can select the device and the contact to whom the file should be shared. You can limit the visibility of your phone to certain people or to everyone. Android file transfers have supported Bluetooth for several years, and then we got Nearby Share. It’s great to see Google proactively improving the feature, and supporting it on PC is a definite plus. Android users will see the change to Quick Share in February.
Apple users have been treated to AirDrop for iPhones, Macs, iPads and all Apple devices. It’s about time Android users got a taste of such features, giving them more reason to stick with the platform instead of switching over to iOS.
