Tablets became popular during the pandemic but since then demand has dropped, even for brands like Apple.News

Reviving Tablet Demand: Can Apple Lead the Post-Pandemic Charge?

The global tablet market continues to stagnate as people have clearly stopped buying tablets in all price ranges. The latest industry figures show the same problem with brands like Apple, Samsung and even Amazon to some extent.

The demand was mainly increased by people staying indoors for work and school, so tablets were ideal devices for their use. But not anymore, and even the likes of iPads are feeling the pinch. Every brand in the tablet market has decreased units in the third quarter of 2023 and their market share is negative.

This comes after a number of brands have entered the tablet segment this year, including OnePlus, Oppo and a few others that have shown their strengths and sought to reverse their success in the mobile category. But the list is still mostly about the usual suspects, which means rookies still have a long way to go before they start to count.

Things get more complicated this year, as Apple decided not to update the iPad lineup, which remains the tablet market leader. It tells you where Android is as a platform for this format. We’ve seen Android evolve and become much more functional and powerful on tablets, but it still has a long way to go before it becomes a serious competitor to iPadOS.

According to reports, Apple will completely update both the Air and Pro models of the iPad series in early 2024. The company itself isn’t making enough dough selling iPads, which probably suggests that the upgrades will have to be significant to get people to upgrade from their current model and get them to spend on newer, potentially more expensive models.

India still dabbles in the affordable segment, which explains why the Redmi and Realme brands offer tablets under Rs 20,000 with modest specs.
