Revolutionize Your Workday: Let AI Take Care of Your Admin!

In order to prioritize front-line responsibilities, the UK is adopting AI technology to aid in administrative tasks, thereby allowing police officers, teachers, and health workers to dedicate more time to their primary duties.

A government review found many teachers “waste one day each week” on tasks including data entry and daily reports, and said reducing the administrative workload would allow police to focus more on fighting crime.

The report, which will be included in the government’s Autumn Statement next week, highlights the “huge opportunities” to reduce day-to-day administrative tasks and further use artificial intelligence to ease the burden on police and teachers and help nurses and doctors treat patients faster.

“Our civil servants are the best in the world, but we are not helping them or the taxpayer when one day every week is wasted on administrators,” Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt said in a statement on Saturday.

“We need to do better by cutting back on administrators, preventing problems before they happen, and safely adopting new technology like artificial intelligence.”

Productivity

Governments around the world are increasingly using AI to streamline operations and increase productivity in public services as costs rise and populations age.

In the U.K., Hunt said, Al is already helping doctors and nurses treat stroke victims and build quality lesson plans for teachers.

The increased use of technology would reduce teachers’ workloads by up to five hours a week over three years, while the new technologies could save the country’s police force around 750,000 hours a week, he said.

The report comes as public opinion remains divided over the increasing use of artificial intelligence in the workplace.

A report released last month by the Office for National Statistics showed that 32 percent of working adults believed that AI could put their jobs at risk, and 28 percent believed that it could make their jobs easier.
