Rumored ‘Capture Button’ on Apple iPhone 16 Could Offer DSLR-Like Camera Control
Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup is still several months away, possibly launching in September of this year, but that doesn’t mean alleged details have stopped emerging. Several rumors – including those related to the chipset, cameras and now an alleged capture button – have surfaced.
According to a report by The Information, two sources familiar with the development of the iPhone 16 series have stated that Apple’s iPhone 16 capture button could serve multiple purposes, including being touch-sensitive, allowing users to zoom in and perhaps even half-press the button. to focus their images, just like you can with a real mirrorless or DSLR camera.
According to the report, users can capture videos and photos quickly when they hold their devices horizontally. Apple expects it to be a key selling point for the devices.
The button is now said to be mechanical, meaning it may not be captured as some previous rumors have claimed. The feature is expected to be present in the entire iPhone 16 range, but it is possible that Apple will only reserve it for the Pro models.
It’s also worth noting that if such a button were to be included in the final designs, it would be interesting to see how third-party cases and Apple’s own cases would be designed – given that a cutout would be necessary, especially if the button is touch-enabled and has a half-press focus function. In addition, the iPhone 15 Pro models already have a new button in the form of the Action Button, so it will also be interesting to see where Apple’s devices place the button, if at all.
In addition to the new capture button, the iPhone 16 series is also expected to include A18-branded chipsets, and the Pro models may get A18 Pro variants. Additionally, both the vanilla and Pro models are expected to have larger displays, and all iPhone 16 Pro models may get a 5X tetraprism zoom lens, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
