SAM ALTMAN SACKED: OpenAI CEO Gets the Boot!

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has been unexpectedly terminated from his role, according to an announcement made by the company on November 18. The reason cited for his dismissal was a lack of transparency in his communication with the board. The decision to remove Altman was made after a thorough review process, during which the board lost confidence in his ability to lead the company. Following this news, Greg Brockman, the president and co-founder of OpenAI, has also resigned. Altman was an early supporter of the company when it was established in 2015.

OpenAI’s official announcement said: “The Board of Directors of OpenAI, Inc., a 501(c)(3), which serves as the overall governing body for all OpenAI operations, announced today that Sam Altman will step down as CEO and leave the company’s board.”

In terms of the reason for the decision, the statement added: “Mr. Altman’s departure is the result of the board’s thoughtful evaluation process, which determined that he was not consistently forthright in his communications with the board, which hindered its ability to carry out its duties. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue to lead OpenAI.”

The company also announced that CTO Mira Murati will be the company’s interim CEO immediately. The board’s statement said: “Mira is exceptionally qualified to step into the role of interim CEO. We have great confidence in her ability to lead OpenAI during this transition period. At the same time, the company continues to search for a suitable candidate to become a permanent CEO.”

Altman posted after X’s announcement saying, “I loved my time at openai. it was transformative for me personally and hopefully a little bit for the world. What I loved most was working with such talented people. more to say later.”

The official announcement stated that Brockman will step down as chairman of the board, but will continue his role at OpenAI. An hour later, however, Brockman informed X that he had resigned from the company.

OpenAI’s Board of Directors includes OpenAI Principal Scientist Ilya Sutskever, independent directors Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, technology entrepreneur Tasha McCauley, and Georgetown Center for Security and Emerging Technology Helen Toner.
