Sundar Pichai’s Message To Google Employees In Israel
The conflict between Palestine and Israel threatens millions of people, and many in the region suffer from sheer turmoil, including Google employees who work in Israel amid the sound of missiles and bombs. Google has two offices in Israel, and now Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google has reached out to them internally in this email, which was cited by 9to5Google this week.
The company has emphasized efforts to prevent the spread of misinformation through platforms like YouTube and work 24×7 to ensure that hateful content does not pass through videos on the platform.
Pichai has told Google employees via this internal memo:
After the horrific attacks in Israel, we are immediately focusing on ensuring the safety of our employees. We have now contacted all our local employees and will continue to support them.
We also strive to provide reliable and accurate information to people who use our products. Our Google and YouTube systems prioritize authoritative information in times of crisis and breaking news. Our teams work around the clock to ensure this and to detect and remove graphically violent, hateful or terrorist content or coordinated disinformation campaigns.
Our cyber security experts share their findings in real time with the wider information security community. For example, our security unit Mandiant has detected fake accounts linked to Iran promoting anti-Israel narratives on various services, as well as investigating reports of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks by suspected Hamas sympathizers and professionals. -Russian hacktivist groups targeting Israeli government websites.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones and all those affected.
– Google spokesperson
Pichai also assured that both offices in Israel, with 2,000 employees, are accounted for and secure, including those traveling to the region. Google also noted that certain fake accounts linked to Iran have been spotted sharing content that is not ideal for de-escalation in the region and tracking potential hacktivist groups from hacking regime websites.
