Tap Into the Power of the iPhone 16: Apple’s Action Button Now Available on ALL Models!
Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro models were released in September and feature an all-new Action Button that effectively replaces the iconic mute switch. The button allows the user to perform various functions. For example, users can customize the button to launch ChatGPT Voice or Google Assistant. In addition, the user can easily set the button to open, for example, the flashlight and the camera.
In particular, Apple decided to reserve this feature only for the iPhone 15 Pro models and released the vanilla iPhone 15 models without it. While this isn’t really a mandatory feature, a new report from MacRumors suggests that the entire iPhone 16 lineup could come with an Action Button in 2024.
The publication states that it has seen sufficient evidence in this direction. It says plans and plans to include an action button were introduced all the way back in 2021, and it was supposed to launch alongside the iPhone 15 Pro’s haptic volume and power buttons, but was canceled due to a technical issue.
With the iPhone 16 series, Apple can double the functions offered by the button and switch from mechanical to capacitive. Codenamed “Atlas”, the new Action Button could have functions reminiscent of the ForceTouch trackpad found on MacBooks and TouchID on older iPhones.
Additionally, it may get a force sensor which, as the name suggests, is responsible for detecting the pressure applied to the button, and with it you get a “will-toggle” function, but it’s not clear what this means yet.
The publication adds that several early prototypes and models of iPhone 16 models have an Action Button and that Apple is experimenting with different sizes for it. On that note, nothing is confirmed yet, especially considering the just-launched Apple iPhone 15 series and the iPhone 16 being 10 months away, plans can always change.
