Thieves used ‘Cash Robbery’ tactic to steal iPhones worth Rs 4.9 from Apple Store
If you are familiar with the Netflix Original Money Heist game, you are aware of the ingenuity of the thieves in the TV series. It is worth noting that in Washington, USA, a group of thieves used a similar tactic to break through the wall of a coffee shop called Seattle Coffee Gear and enter the Apple Store – with a missing iPhone worth around Rs 4.9 crore.
According to the MacRumors website of Seattle’s King 5 News, the thieves gained access to the back room of the Alderwood Mall Apple store by tunneling through the washroom of the coffee shop next door. Thieves managed to bypass the Apple Store’s security system and stole a total of 436 iPhones worth around $5,00,000.
Seattle Coffee Gear manager Eric Marks insisted that the coffee shop isn’t particularly close to the Apple Store based on its building, saying, “I never would have guessed we’d be next to an Apple Store. I mean, the way it surrounds.” He added, “So someone had to really think about it and get access to the layout of the mall.”
Good morning Twitter fans! Yesterday was a weird day…1. Two men broke into one of our retail locations. Why? To cut a hole in our bathroom wall to access the Apple Store next door and steal $500k worth of Iphones🙄
2. Later that night on the way to the grocery store my wife… pic.twitter.com/DcUld6ULEd

MacRumors reported that Washington, D.C. police have obtained surveillance footage of the burglary, but due to the ongoing investigation, no details or footage have been released yet. Moreover, the thieves had little interest in the cafe and did not steal anything from it.
Thus, the description of the crime appears to be a plot straight out of a Hollywood movie, and it’s interesting to note how much planning and supervision must have gone into a heist of this scale – right in the middle of a mall.
