Threads introduces polls and GIFs to attract users
Threads developers have been diligently working on incorporating enticing new features for users. One recent addition is the ability to follow individuals mentioned in Threads posts. Additionally, it has been disclosed that Threads is considering the introduction of a Trending section, displaying the top 5 popular topics and the corresponding number of mentions. Despite competition from tech giants like X, Threads has also announced the implementation of another feature aimed at enhancing user interaction and enjoyment.
Threads is getting a new feature
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri revealed that Threads will bring polls and GIFs to the platform. Announcing the feature, Mosseri posted on Threads: “I’m excited to bring you two new ways to spark conversation on Threads: polls and GIFs. Polls let you invite others to weigh in on topics you care about. And now it’s easier to find and add the right GIF to express your feelings.”
With GIFs, you can now comment on or reply to messages with interactive images instead of just text. In addition, the ability to create polls also allows users who rarely use the platform to have their voices heard. Once polls are created, they will appear in Threads for 24 hours, and the creator can decide who can answer their polls. With these moves, the platform aims to compete against X and gain more users, especially as it has dealt with a decline in engagement since its July launch.
Other new features
Just a few weeks ago, Threads announced a new feature that allows users to follow anyone mentioned in a Threads post. A long press on a message opens a new menu, where the Threads accounts of all the people mentioned in the message are opened, as well as the possibility to follow them. You can follow them by tapping the “Follow All” option. Note that this feature is only available on the mobile version of Threads.
For those who also use the online version of Threads, there is a new feature. Instead of having to save media and attachments to their device and then create a new message, users can now simply copy and paste them.
