Transfer Netflix Profile to an Existing Account Now Available
Starting today, Netflix users have the option to transfer their profile to an already established account. This new feature aims to simplify the process for users who are sharing an account with roommates or a partner, allowing them to retain their personalized settings and recommendations while dividing the expenses. According to the company, this addition was highly demanded by users.
Since October, users have been able to create a new account with their current profile. That way, they can keep their watch history, titles saved to My List, game save data, and other settings when they move out with their parents or break up with an ex. But if you didn’t have an account to move your profile to, you’ll need to create a new one.
Netflix originally offered the feature before expanding its password-sharing protections. In February, the company began charging users in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain extra fees to allow friends and family members who don’t live with them to continue using their accounts. In May, the company expanded direct debit payments to the United States.
A third-party analysis suggests that account sign-ups increased in the US shortly after Netflix began implementing the policy in the country. We’ll soon have a clearer idea of how well the strategy is working for the company when it releases its quarterly results next week.
