Verification of Government ID Required for X Premium Users Provided by Elon Musk
X Corp has introduced government ID-based verification checks for X premium users as it seeks to curb impersonation on its platform and offer them more benefits such as “prioritized support.”
According to the company, the ID is currently available in several countries and will soon expand to other countries such as the European Union, the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom.
The platform has cooperated with the Israeli company Au10tix to verify identity.
“X is currently focusing on account verification to prevent impersonation and may explore additional measures, such as ensuring users have access to age-appropriate content and protecting against spam and malicious accounts, maintaining the integrity of the platform and ensuring healthy conversations.” X on the website.
Users who choose to participate in this ID verification may receive additional benefits associated with a specific X feature in the future, such as a prominently displayed ID verification popup that appears when you click your blue checkmark.
They also benefit from the “increased confidence of other users who can see your ID when they hover over your blue check mark.” Such users also receive priority support from X Services.
More benefits in the future will speed up getting a blue checkmark, thanks to a simplified review process and “greater flexibility to often add a profile picture, screen name, or username (@handle).”
According to X, this option is currently only available to individual users, not to companies or organizations. The company recently announced a feature that allows paid users to hide their checkmarks from their profiles.
