Comparing Salaries of Engineers at Google, Amazon, and Microsoft

Google vs Amazon vs Microsoft: All major tech brands, including Google, Apple, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) and Microsoft, pay their engineers better than other major companies, according to a new report.

This comes after news broke of a Google software engineer’s claim to earn an impressive $150,000 a year (about Rs. 1.2 billion) by working just an hour a day.

Google and Meta tend to pay their software engineers higher than other big tech companies, according to Blind, an anonymous website for tech workers. The report claims that Apple and Microsoft, on the other hand, typically pay the least for new engineers.

However, when considering more senior positions, pay tends to be similar among the largest tech companies. The information provided by Blind is from people who have shared their salary information between January and August 2023 of the previous year. The forum requires people to confirm their workplace with their work email.

The report also revealed that it may take longer to move up your career at Amazon, and the company also has a wide range of salaries for engineers. It shows that the total salary can be very different from person to person.

According to the report, while the overall pay at iPhone maker Apple may not be as high as other companies, their work standards and pay ranges are reliable and fair.

As for Google, it is said that their pay ranges are among the most consistent in the tech industry. This means that it is quite difficult for someone at a lower job level to get paid more than someone at a higher level.

The report also suggested that engineers at Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, seem to get promoted relatively quickly and earn the highest salaries.

Microsoft also has different job levels for software engineers. This may allow them to offer more offers flexibly. However, their total salary is lower than other companies at all levels.
