Apple MacBook Pro With Touch Bar Reaches End of Support Life
Apple is finally ready to close the chapter on MacBook Pro models that came with a touch bar for controls. The company has added MacBook Pro models from 2016 to its vintage catalog, which means that if you have these products, you may have to do third-party repairs as Apple officially ends support for the device and its accessories.
A MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar was announced in 2016, but the company probably didn’t think it was meaningful enough to continue because newer models had normal function keys for these features. The Touch Bar was supposed to be Apple’s next big feature that others would likely have adopted, but the rapid turnover of the tool means the industry never felt the need to offer the feature.
In fact, we’ve seen the trend shift towards dual-screen laptops in the Windows segment, with Lenovo, Asus and other brands setting the future of the PC segment in a different direction.
Moving a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar to the vintage list also means that you are not eligible for repairs through an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Center. This may not be the case if you are willing to take the risk and repair the product using third party repair centers in the country.
Needless to say, such a list (vintage) also helps people decide whether to continue using the product or upgrade it. Apple has a loyal user base for its Mac products, and if they are told about these changes, they will still be in their ecosystem.
Earlier this year, we saw other Apple products like the iPad Mini, iPod, older MacBooks and iPhones added to the list. In addition to these, the first generation model of the Apple Watch was removed from Apple’s official selection.
