Elon Musk’s Remark Sets New Record for Jack Dorsey’s Bluesky
Bluesky, a decentralized social app founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, has emerged as a popular alternative to X (formerly Twitter) this year. Whenever Elon Musk, who recently took over Twitter, makes a controversial statement, it often leads to an exodus of users from his platform to rivals like Bluesky. This trend repeated on September 19, 2023, when Musk’s shocking comment about turning X into a paid-only app prompted a significant surge in new user signups for Bluesky. Consequently, Bluesky achieved a remarkable new record for the highest number of daily signups on their platform. While the exact reason behind this sudden influx of users remains unclear, it is likely that Musk’s comment played a role in influencing users’ decisions to join Bluesky.
New Bluesky users are counted
In a live broadcast with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Elon Musk talked about his proposal to introduce a “small monthly fee” for users of the X app. Just a day after the interview, the number of new users of the X alternative app doubled. According to a Mashable India report, the invitation app added more than 42,000 new users on Tuesday, marking the highest daily sign-up – a new record. According to Bluesky Stats, the app now has 1,163,287 registered users.
According to reports, Bluesky has up to 20,000 new signups per day, but after the comment, signups doubled in one day, which is a huge number for a relatively new app. Jack Dorsey and the app’s CEO Jay Graber are the main figures in Bluesky, and some reports indicate that Musk may have also invested $13 million in the app.
While the X app is going through a number of changes, Musk faces various challenges along the way as the app never leaves the headlines as a controversial one. However, X’s user base is still strong after rebranding from Twitter to X. However, if Musk continues to “sabotage” X every time he opens his mouth to talk about his portal, the retreat in subscriber numbers could very well turn into a full-on breakout.
