X Launching Audio and Video Calling Feature, But Only For Select Users

X Corp is soon to introduce voice and video calling for premium subscription users, as X CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed last month that video calling will be coming to the platform as part of its move to become an “everything app.”

Tech veteran investor Chris Messina revealed new code for the X app that supports voice and video calls from other verified users from people they follow or people in their address book.

“As Linda’s lively reel hinted, X will soon add voice and video calling,” Messina posted on X’s rival Threads. “Obviously you have to pay for this feature because Skype is dead,” he added.

According to the feature description, “Take your messaging to the next level with voice and video calls.”

“Enable the feature, then choose who you want to use it with.”

Last month, Yaccarino said the company is on the verge of breaking even after undergoing massive turnover over the past few months, including massive layoffs and platform changes. In his first TV interview since taking over as CEO of X Corp, Yaccarino said video calling will soon arrive on the platform as it aims to become an “everything app” like China’s WeChat.

“I have been with the company for eight weeks. The operational speed at the moment… we’re pretty close to breaking even,” he said. X’s CEO said that soon “you’ll be able to make video chat calls without having to give your phone number to anyone on the platform.”

He also talked about other features, such as long-form videos and subscriptions from content creators, as well as future plans for digital payments. Musk always wanted Twitter to become an “everything app” like China’s WeChat.
