Somanath Reveals ISRO Facing Over 100 Cyber-Attacks Daily
The chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somanath, revealed that the country’s space agency is being targeted by over 100 cyber-attacks every day. Speaking at the 16th edition of the c0c0n, an international cyber conference in Kochi, Kerala, Somanath emphasized that the risk of cyber-attacks is particularly elevated in rocket technology due to its reliance on advanced software and chip-based hardware.
“The organization has a robust cyber security network to counter such attacks,” he said.
The conference was specially organized by Kerala Police and Security Research Association here.

The ISRO chief further said that apart from the software, ISRO is also continuing various tests focusing on the security of the hardware chips inside the rockets.
“Earlier, the way of tracking one satellite has changed to the way the software monitors multiple satellites at a time. This shows the growth of this sector. During the COVID era, it was possible to launch from a remote location, which shows the triumph of technology,” he added.
He further said that there are different satellites that branch into navigation, maintenance, etc.
“And in addition to these, there are also satellites that help the daily lives of common people. All these are controlled by different types of software. Cyber security is very important to protect all these,” Somanath added.
He said advanced technology is a blessing and a threat at the same time.
“We can meet the challenges posed by cybercriminals by using technology like artificial intelligence with the same technology. Research and hard work is required to achieve this goal,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kerala Revenue Minister P Rajeev, who inaugurated the concluding session of the conference, said that the state is a role model for cyber security management as the state government is able to provide adequate security in the cyber arena.
“The state government is capable of providing adequate security in the cyber arena. The government is also providing necessary support to this sector by setting up a Digital University in the state. Kerala is a state where internet is guaranteed through K-Fone to every house,” the minister said.
He also said that c0c0n is a role model for the cyber security sector in India which is making necessary innovations in cyber security.
“C0c0n is capable of creating the next generation of cybersecurity experts,” P Rajeev added.
Hibi Eden MP presided over the function where Mayor M Anilkumar was the chief guest. Actor Mamta Mohandas, Intelligence ADGP Manoj Abraham IPS and ISRA President Manu Zacharia also spoke at the event.
