iPhone 15 Experiencing Interference From BMW Cars’ Wireless Chargers; BMW Promises Resolution

It’s no secret that cars today have the ability to charge phones and other devices wirelessly. But what if it could disable the feature on the brand new iPhone 15? Well, that’s exactly what has reportedly happened to some iPhone 15 users who charge their devices wirelessly in BMW cars.

Yes, the NFC chips in some iPhone 15 models are reportedly failing when charging wirelessly in BMW cars, and BMW has since acknowledged that it is working with Apple to fix the problem.

BMW UK responded to a user who posted a query on X (formerly Twitter) asking if his BMW iX3 was also affected by the same problem, saying: “The issue is currently being investigated in conjunction with Apple. We cannot provide a timetable but hope to have an update soon .”

In addition, MacRumors reported earlier this week that Apple has shared an internal memo with “Apple Authorized Service Providers” that claims a “small number” of wireless chargers in certain BMW and Toyota Supras are “temporarily disabling” the iPhone 15’s NFC capabilities . and iPhone 15 Pro models. Until the fix is released, Apple – according to MacRumors – has advised users not to use wireless chargers in these cars.

It’s not exactly clear how widespread this problem is – considering iPhone wireless charging in cars, particularly BMWs, only a small number of users would. “Today I got a popup that says ‘Apple Pay Issue’. I can no longer use anything in my wallet: Apple Cash, Apple Card, digital car key, credit cards. It won’t let me add them back either,” a user wrote on the MacRumors forums. It was later revealed that the person had a BMW car and was using a wireless charger.

Another user said: “Same problem here. 2022 BMW with surface charger. I put a week old iPhone 15 Pro on the charger and when I unplugged it the screen went white and I had to wait about an hour for it to turn on again.

However, there has been no official word from Apple, but as previously mentioned, BMW’s UK X account has acknowledged the same issue, indicating that a fix may be coming soon.
