ChatGPT Revenue Surges, But Lags Behind Other AI Applications
When ChatGPT was launched in November 2022, it quickly gained worldwide popularity. This AI-powered chatbot impressed users with its ability to quickly complete tasks like answering questions and generating complex content, tasks that would typically take employees hours or even days. Since its launch, ChatGPT has made significant advancements, including the addition of features like Code Interpreter, integration with DALL.E, and multi-modal capabilities. Despite facing tough competition from chatbots like Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing, ChatGPT continues to dominate the market and has captured a large market share. However, surprisingly, it is not the highest revenue-generating chatbot.
ChatGPT earnings
Citing a report by Apptopia, TechCrunch reported that while ChatGPT is the market leader in the AI chatbot race, it has been beaten by a couple of apps in mobile platform revenue. In September, consumers spent nearly $1.98 million on ChatGPT. On the other hand, two apps, Chat & Ask AI and ChatOn — AI Chat Bot Assistant, have won it with $3.38 million and $2.11 million respectively in September. However, ChatGPT may return to the top with $2.39 million in consumer spending as of October 24.
OpenAI’s chatbot is closely followed by AI Chatbot: AI Chat Smith, which raised $1.72 million, and AI Chatbot – Nova with $1.44 million in revenue.
Not only AI chatbots, but also other AI-powered apps like photo editing apps give ChatGPT a run for its money. According to the report, an image editing app called Remini reached a massive 16.17 downloads last month. Other photo editing apps in the competition include PicsArt AI Photo Editor, FaceApp, Wonder — AI Art Generator, and Facetune AI Photo/Video Editor.
Downloads are increasing
Although the AI chatbot was released in November 2022, OpenAI only released its mobile app version in May this year. According to the report, the ChatGPT app was initially released only for iOS and had nearly 15.1 million downloads by June. Since then, it’s gone from strength to strength, with the latest figures showing over 23 million downloads in September. With the app now available for Android as well, ChatGPT has reached 38.88 million active monthly users.
