Apple still features the Lightning port in its Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard, despite the majority of its products moving to USB-C.News

Apple iMac Accessories Feature Lightning Connector, No USB-C in Sight

Earlier today, Apple released new Macs powered by its third-generation M-series chips – the Apple M3. The new Mac line-up includes new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, as well as a 24-inch iMac that has been updated after a two-year run – replacing the aging M1 with the latest M3 chip.

However, one thing stands out in the new iMac: the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard accessories. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the accessories, but despite rumors suggesting an upgrade to include USB-C replacing the Lightning connector, they still come with a Lightning port for charging. This decision comes after the iPhone 15 series was recently launched and finally used USB-C. Based on this change, analysts and media reports expected Apple to offer redesigned USB-C-enabled accessories for the new Macs. However, contrary to expectations, no such update was seen.

We don’t know when Apple will update these accessories. However, it’s worth noting that if someone buys a new iMac that already has an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro, and other USB-C enabled Apple products like the iPad Air or one of the new MacBooks, they’ll need to use Lightning. cable (supplied in the box) to charge the mouse, trackpad and keyboard – while everything else is charged via USB-C.

The fact that Apple hasn’t updated the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard is quite surprising, especially considering its gradual transition to USB-C from the Lightning connector. Just a couple of weeks ago, Apple launched the Apple Pencil with a USB-C port, and last month, alongside the iPhone 15 series, the second-generation AirPods Pro with a USB-C port were also introduced.

Therefore, even if the “frighteningly fast” event would have been the perfect opportunity to move the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, maybe we’ll see the updates sometime later.
