Android Users in India Can Now Access Google’s Car Crash Detection Feature: Here’s What You Need To Know

This week, Google is expanding support for its crash detection feature to more countries, now including India. Crash detection works similarly to Apple’s iPhone feature, but Google has already brought Android support to select phones.

As the name suggests, the crash detector uses your Android phone’s sensors to alert you if you encounter an accident. According to reports, Google has been able to use its full potential and even help people report in real-life situations.

Details about the crash detection coming to India and a few other countries were shared by tipster Mishaal Rahman, who has a solid track record of reporting Android updates. Coming back to the feature, Google is offering car crash detection in India, which also shows the company’s direction in the country, which also plans to start production of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro by early 2024.

Google Vehicle Detection for Android – How it works

First, you may need to enable the feature on your Android phone as Google doesn’t enable it by default. To do this, follow these steps:

– Go to the settings of your Android phone

– Scroll down to Security and emergency and tap on it

– Search for crash detection and enable the feature

– Your phone can now warn about Kolar

When the feature is enabled, it will be able to detect potential road accidents and notify the emergency services who will come to help and assist you in such situations. The phone vibrates and alerts at maximum volume and even asks the person if they need help. It then contacts the emergency number 112 to share your location and crash information.

The feature has proven its worth in other countries, and now these countries are getting it:

India

Austria

Belgium

Portugal

Switzerland

Google makes it clear that crash detection is currently only available on Pixel phones, and even there you need a Pixel 4a or later, which also includes the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series. Apart from this, the feature is only available in certain languages and people living in India are yet to get the Hindi option for the feature.

Google notes that your phone may not be able to detect all crashes, which means you may need other help to survive the situation.
