Elon Musk Reveals the Risky Reason Behind Sam Altman’s Dismissal

Elon Musk has shed light on the idea that OpenAI could have done “something potentially dangerous” to humanity, which may have been one of the reasons ex-CEO Sam Altman was let go.

For the uninitiated, Sam Altman, former CEO of OpenAI, fired the generative AI giant last week. OpenAI, which is responsible for creating the popular chatbot ChatGPT and the GPT suite of large language models (LLM), said they no longer trusted Sam to lead the company. And this triggered a series of events that are really strange.

Now, Elon Musk quickly jumped into action after asking Ilja Sutskever why he took such a big step to fire Altman suddenly. Sutskever is one of OpenAI’s board members and a scientist, and it is believed that he may have been one of the main reasons why Sam was ousted from the very company he built. After all the drama, and when Microsoft’s Satya Nadella announced that Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and some other members of OpenAI were going to join Microsoft, with Sam as the CEO of the AI project, Sutskever quickly apologized. Elon Musk at X (formerly Twitter).

“I deeply regret my involvement in the board. I never intended to harm OpenAI. I love everything we’ve built together and will do everything I can to bring the company together,” Sutskever said at X.

Elon Musk, who responded to this post, later said: “Why did you take such a drastic step? If OpenAI is doing something potentially dangerous to humanity, the world needs to know.” Now this has become a catalyst for a discussion about the responsible development of OpenAI towards generative artificial intelligence.

Experts in the field, including Musk himself, have time and again expressed their views on how artificial intelligence can prove to be dangerous to humans in the future and that development must be done responsibly and not rushed.

Many have voiced their fear of potential hyper-intelligent AI software that could prove to be a detriment to humanity, and that working too fast to achieve this might not be the best idea for humanity as a whole.
