Mark Gurman predicts significant upgrades for Apple iPad Pro and iPad Air, including the introduction of M3 chip and OLED display.

Apple has been actively developing various new technologies recently. In 2023, significant updates were made to almost all Apple devices, such as the inclusion of the first-ever Action Button in the iPhone 15 series and the integration of the new M3 chip in MacBooks. However, there was an exception to this trend as Apple did not release a new iPad for the first time in its 13-year history. Instead, the company introduced a new accessory called the Apple Pencil USB Type-C for the existing iPad. Although there were rumors of new iPads being launched later in 2023, those speculations have been debunked. Nevertheless, Apple is still working on significant updates for the iPad Pro and iPad Air, so stay tuned for what’s to come.

iPad Pro, Air updates

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that at least two iPads could be receiving major updates soon, with the iPad Pro and iPad Air being the devices. No official information on the specs has been revealed, but a possible processor bump could be on the cards. The iPad Pro could get an OLED display, an updated design, and an M3 chip. Apple could also bring an updated Magic Keyboard attachment! These changes are likely to help the iPad Pro stand out from the flagship iPad model.

On the other hand, the iPad Air could benefit from the M2 processor and will likely come out in two sizes – 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch. However, it is still slightly smaller than the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro. Last year, Apple introduced the M2-powered iPad Pro alongside the iPad 10th Gen in October, and the iPad Air could finally benefit from the M2 upgrade.

Gurman also suggested that Apple ditch the last iPad Air 9th generation, which resembles Apple’s old design strategy with big bezels and a chunky home button at the bottom. It could be replaced by the 11th generation iPad.
