Report: Apple Watch Ultra Could Feature Enormous microLED Display by 2026

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is Apple’s flagship Apple Watch, which costs a whopping Rs 89,900 in India. This makes it more expensive than the Apple Watch SE 2 and the latest Apple Watch Series 9, and rightly so, thanks to the myriad of extra features, better battery life and the range of materials it brings. And yes, it’s also bigger than the Series 9 (max 45mm) at 49mm. But what if the flagship Apple Watch grew even bigger in a future iteration?

Yes, that’s exactly what Taiwanese research firm TrendForce reports. According to the report, the Apple Watch flagship to launch in 2026 could feature a 10% larger screen and switch from the current OLED panel to microLED technology.

If this were to happen, the dimensions of the new Apple Watch would be 2.12 inches, compared to the 1.93 inches of the second-generation model of the Apple Watch Ultra, which was launched alongside the iPhone 15 Pro models in September of this year.

Additionally, TrendForce notes that these larger panels could cost Apple $120, making them about 2-3 times more expensive than current OLED panels. Two different suppliers are expected to create these panels for Apple – German LED company OSRAM and LG Display.

Apple is said to have been working on its microLED technology for some time, which is said to be powerful and offer even more advantages over today’s OLED panels. But so far we are yet to see Apple releasing the same device.

In related news, Apple is expected to revamp its entire iPad lineup in 2024, with updates expected for new iPad Pro models with OLED displays, a new iPad Air, and more.
