Resignation of Senior Designer Involved in Apple’s Iconic Official Store Designs
In 2023, Apple lost several senior executives responsible for key parts of the company, including the senior employee who created Touch ID. Now Apple has lost yet another top executive — Peter Russell-Clarke — who was Apple’s senior engineer and played a key role in designing a wide range of Apple products and even the company’s infrastructure.
As Bloomberg reports, ether Russell-Clarke has resigned after 20 years at the company, where he was the last remaining senior designer from the Jony Ive era.
In particular, he has worked on Apple’s flagship products, including the iMac, iPod Nano, MacBooks and even iPads. In addition, he helped design the look of the company’s headquarters (Apple Park in Cupertino) and its retail stores located around the world. In addition, his legacy extends to 1,000 patents filed by Apple.
Clarke, unlike some recent departures, is not retiring entirely; instead, he changes his job and role. Clarke has joined a company called ‘Vast’ where he shares his ‘views on all aspects of industrial design’.
Clarke is one of a growing number of senior employees leaving the iPhone maker. Earlier this month, it was also announced that Steve Hotelling, who played a key role in the development of the Touch ID biometric system, was leaving Apple. Hotelling’s role at Apple revolves around design components such as displays, health sensors and biometrics such as Face ID.
Currently, he works as the company’s vice president. He also leaves behind a rich legacy for Apple. He is said to be responsible for hundreds of patents owned by Apple and has been one of the key people behind Apple’s iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
