Both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max may feature a "tetraprism" telephoto zoom lens, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.News

Report suggests that the upcoming Apple iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max might include ‘Tetraprism’ zooming.

The Apple iPhone 16 Pro models are still several months away, and a possible release date is September next year. However, as the year 2024 approaches, the rumor mill around new models starts to accelerate.

The latest update to the Apple iPhone 16 Pro models comes from MacRumors. According to the publication, its sources have stated that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a “tetraprism” telephoto zoom lens that was introduced earlier this year exclusively with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

This is a notable difference from the iPhone 15 Pro models, as the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro only has a 3x (72mm equivalent) lens instead of a 5x lens. If this report is true, both 16 Pro models will have comparable camera performance. MacRumors’ information also matches claims made by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in September.

Bigger iPhones may be coming

The report further added that to achieve this, Apple may have to increase the size of the standard iPhone 16 Pro model from 6.1 inches to a 6.3 inch OLED panel. Therefore, we may see the smaller Pro model grow larger to improve the optics. The iPhone 16 Pro Max can also offer a larger screen with a massive 6.9 inches. But remember that these are just rumors for now, and you should take them with a grain of salt until the products finally become official.

However, it’s worth noting that preferring a 5X or 3X lens is subjective, and online communities are clearly divided as to which is better. Some users argue that the 3X telephoto lens is more useful in real life, as the 5X lens can sometimes feel too “tight”. However, a 120mm equivalent 5X telephoto lens can produce beautiful portraits and allow for a compressed image background.
