Report: Apple may release OLED iPad Pro in April; production of display panels to commence shortly.
Apple has been rumored to be working on OLED iPad Pro models for some time, and they are expected to replace the current M2-powered iPad Pro models. These new models are said to be refurbished and may cost more than the old 11″ and 12.9″ models.
The latest of the same comes from The Elec, which says OLED panels for Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro models will begin shipping later this week, and the devices themselves could ship in April later this year.
The publication reported that LG Display, which manufactures panels alongside Samsung Display, has already started producing film transistors or TFT layers for the 13-inch model. Samsung has also reportedly started its own process for the 11-inch version.
Elec said the finished versions are scheduled to enter mass production around March. This confirms what some reports have said recently. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman Bloomberg expects the new OLED iPad to hit the shelves in the spring, as early as March. Also, Ming-Chi Kuo previously announced that new iPad models will be released in the second quarter of 2024, which could mean April, May or June.
Currently, the iPad Pro 11″ and 12.9″ models use IPS LCD and miniLED technology. The move to OLED is expected to improve the overall experience, but is also said to increase costs. MacRumors reports that the new iPad Pro models could start at a whopping $1,500 and could go as high as $2,000.
