Samsung Galaxy S24 series launch event: 10 major announcements revealed at Galaxy Unpacked

Samsung has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California on January 17. The highlight of the event was the introduction of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but there were also other significant announcements. Samsung placed a strong emphasis on AI and introduced its latest tech innovation, Galaxy AI, which aims to provide a more advanced smartphone experience. They even referred to it as Samsung’s ‘Eureka moment’. Additionally, Samsung followed Apple’s example by presenting a surprise health innovation. Samsung Galaxy Unpacked: 10 Big Announcements

1. Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Announced – Samsung unveiled its latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 series, and much of the event focused exclusively on the features of the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung says the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a smartphone for gamers with an optimal thermal management system with a 1.9 times larger vapor chamber than its predecessor. It also gets a new 5X optical camera.

2. Corning Gorilla Armor – The Galaxy S24 Ultra features Corning Gorilla Armor on the front, which is claimed to show excellent resistance to damage from everyday scratches. Samsung says Corning Gorilla Armor also reduces reflections by up to 75%.

3. 7 Years of OS Updates – TM Roh, Head of Samsung’s Mobile Division took the stage and made a historic announcement. With the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, the South Korean technology giant offers 7 years of operating system updates!

4. Galaxy AI – Samsung also announced its most anticipated and latest technological innovation – Galaxy AI. The tech giant says Galaxy AI introduces meaningful intelligence that aims to improve all aspects of life, especially the phone’s most important role – communication. It gets various features like Interpreter, Live Translator, Chat Assist, Note Assist, Transcript Assist and Circle to Search.

5. Samsung joins forces with Google Cloud – Samsung announced a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud that will bring a creative AI experience to Galaxy smartphones. Samsung is the first Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro and Image 2 with Vertex AI via the cloud to its smartphones starting with the Galaxy S24 series.

6. “A new way to express” with Photomoji – Harnessing the power of Google’s Gemini, users can turn their photos and stickers into Photomoji. This move could help Samsung directly compete against Google’s AI!

7. Circle to Search – According to Samsung, the Circle to Search feature opens up new forms of discovery with a simple gesture. With a long press of the home button, users can circle, highlight, scratch or tap anything on the Galaxy S24 screen to see useful and high-quality search results. This feature even lets you learn about someone’s wardrobe and get links to buy them.

8. HDR in social media apps – Galaxy S24 series features like Super HDR and Nightography are available in all social media apps. Samsung says it will be the first smartphone manufacturer to bring HDR-capable photos to Instagram. Even MrBeast’s latest YouTube video was shot on a Galaxy S24 Ultra!

9. AI Editing Tools – Samsung also introduced a bunch of AI editing tools at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Edit Suggestion uses Galaxy AI to suggest the perfect adjustments for each photo. At the same time, Generative Editing can fill in parts of the image’s background. The Galaxy S24 series’ Instant Slow-mo feature can create additional frames based on motion, smoothly slowing down action-packed moments for a more detailed look.

10. Galaxy Ring – Samsung also teased its latest wearable health device, the Galaxy Ring. However, the South Korean technology giant did not delve into the details of the device. Maybe later? Its closest competitor, the Oura Ring, is priced at $300.
