Rabbit R1 and Perplexity AI join forces to enhance AI-assisted experience at no cost!

Following its impressive performance at CES ’24, Rabbit’s compact AI device, the Rabbit R1, is venturing into uncharted territory with a strategic partnership alongside Perplexity AI. This collaboration aims to enhance the R1’s functionalities, representing a substantial advancement in the field of AI-powered personal assistants.

In X’s exclusive live Spaces broadcast, Rabbit CEO Jesse Lyu and Perplexity founder Aravind Srinivas revealed this exciting partnership. As part of a limited offer, the first 100,000 R1 buyers will receive a free one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro, valued at $200. With 50,000 units already pre-ordered, the R1, priced at $199, is generating a lot of anticipation ahead of its planned March or April delivery, The Hindu reported.

The collaboration brings advanced features to R1, such as file upload support, a daily quota of over 300 complex queries, and the ability to seamlessly switch between AI models such as GPT-4, Claude 2.1, and Gemini. While R1 already has functions like booking tours, finding recipes, and recognizing objects or people, the integration with Perplexity AI improves its accuracy in fact-checking and providing up-to-date information.

For those unfamiliar with the Rabbit R1, it’s important to clarify that it’s not a smartphone, but a dedicated AI-powered personal assistant. Designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering, the $199 handheld offers a walkie-talkie-like square shape in bright orange, furthering its retro aesthetic. Equipped with a 2.88-inch touchscreen, camera, steering wheel, speakers, microphones, 4GB of memory, 128GB of storage and a 2.3GHz MediaTek processor, the R1 is a compact powerhouse.

Despite its small size, about half the size of the iPhone 15, the R1 performs uniquely. Instead of built-in apps, it connects to apps on users’ smartphones. The distinguishing feature of the device is its software, Rabbit OS, and the underlying artificial intelligence technology. Using the “Large Action Model” (LAM), Rabbit OS acts as a common controller for various applications, providing a versatile solution for managing services on websites, applications or other platforms.
