Google AI Chief: India Prepared to Harness AI Boom for Software Development

India is well positioned to use artificial intelligence to increase software development productivity in the country, Google said in a blog post on Monday.

They learned about the unique opportunities and ethical aspects of AI in India and the country’s position as a leader in responsible AI innovation.

According to Dr. Jeff Dean, Principal Scientist, Google DeepMind and Google Research, India can leverage AI because of its strong foundation in technology and computer science.

He emphasized the importance of AI education and skill development for students and software developers.

“Young students in India are eager to understand the shift from more traditional computer science to learning-based approaches to solving all kinds of problems. You’re going to see more students wanting to get into this kind of field of study and activity,” Dean said.

“Artificial intelligence is making software development much more productive and India is particularly well placed in this area,” he added.

Dean noted that AI also has the potential to close the gaps in underserved communities. AI also has a big role to play in healthcare and education — from its ability to personalize education and provide better opportunities for doctors to make more informed medical decisions, Dean said.

He also emphasized the need for checks and balances as artificial intelligence becomes more common.
