Apple plans to compete with Meta by launching its own smart glasses and integrating a camera into AirPods.
Apple has been busy in recent years with iPhones that sell millions, but the company is also interested in exploring other segments, especially related to the wearables market. The company is planning big changes that include new smart glasses, something that Meta offers, and packing a camera into the AirPods for some reason.
This information comes via a report from Bloomberg, which says that there is nothing concrete from Apple yet, but at least it is looking at new product markets.
Apple is likely to choose Meta’s brain for its smart glasses, as the brand already has Ray Ban smart glasses available in the market. Apple’s futuristic device is likely not a barebones version of the Vision Pro, but will build a whole new product line that supports an AI assistant and a camera built into the glass.
But things get interesting with the next product in Apple’s plans, the camera-equipped AirPods.
We’re not sure what or how Apple feels it needs cameras in your ear, but we’re talking about a trillion-dollar company, so it clearly feels there’s a market for such weird devices. After all, the company is going to be seriously interested in artificial intelligence over the next few years, so the camera-equipped AirPods could just be the start of something different from the tech giant.
While we’re not so sure about these AirPods, Apple has a better chance of succeeding with smart glasses now that people have already seen this style of device and Apple is likely to cater to the premium segment with such a product.
Apple is currently busy with other things, especially AI, which we may see much later this year at WWDC 2024. iOS 18 is expected to be one of its biggest updates in years, and the AI focus shows where the company is headed against its rivals.
