Vaishnaw states that releasing untested AI models to the public is harmful for society, and emphasizes that advisory on AI is not mandatory.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized on Monday that social media firms and internet companies must take responsibility for their actions, stating that releasing untested AI models to the public is detrimental to society.
The minister also said that the government’s advice on artificial intelligence is not binding, but it urges companies to publicize their AI models only after testing.
Deploying AI models should be done responsibly, Vaishnaw said, adding, “It is important for the safety of citizens and the democratic process. That is why it has been advised that any AI model should be properly tested before it is released. It is applicable to social markets. media platforms (also).
He answered a question about the government’s artificial intelligence advice.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology warned brokers and platforms in instructions issued on March 1 about criminal legal action if the regulations are not followed.
“All platforms, intermediaries and enabling software must be held accountable for any violations and non-compliance would result in punitive sanctions,” it said.
The advice came days after Google’s artificial intelligence platform Gemini made comments against Prime Minister Modi’s policies.
Without naming Google, the minister said: “Some people have apologized for not properly testing the model before uploading it. Social media has a wide reach. Owners of social media platforms and Internet businesses should take responsibility for what they do.”
