LinkedIn may introduce games to increase user engagement on the platform.
LinkedIn helps people find jobs and even has a feed where people share their thoughts and posts. But soon there may also be games on the professional platform. That’s right, LinkedIn could become a competitor to Netflix and Apple in the near future as its in-app games are reportedly lining up.
LinkedIn, which now has over a billion users, is working on a new gaming experience, reports TechCrunch. The first three early attempts are games called “Queens”, “Inference” and “Crossclimb”.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that they are working on the game, but there is no official release date yet. “We’re playing by adding puzzle-based games to the LinkedIn experience to unlock some fun, deepen relationships, and hopefully spark opportunity for conversations,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Application researcher Nima Owji also said that LinkedIn seems to be experimenting with gaming. However, LinkedIn did not comment on whether Microsoft is involved in the game project at the company.
Microsoft’s gaming business – which includes Xbox and Activision Blizzard – posted revenue of $7.1 billion in the last quarter. The company completed the purchase of game company Activision Blizzard in October last year.
It is clear that LinkedIn wants to increase the average time spent in the app and sees gaming as an ideal channel to enter and attract more users.
