New iPad Air 2024 series debuts with Apple M2 chip; Explore specifications, cost and additional details
Apple has finally refreshed its iPad lineup after almost two years of neglect, unveiling new devices such as the iPad Air at its Let Loose event on May 7. The tech giant described it as the most significant iPad announcement since the device was first introduced. Unlike the MacBooks, which were quietly released through a press release, the iPad Air was showcased in a live-streamed video by Apple, providing a detailed look at its features, capabilities, and pricing.
iPad Air features and specifications
The new iPad Air has been released in two screen sizes – 11-inch and 13-inch, both of which get familiar Apple features like Center Stage. The camera has now been moved to the edge of the landscape, along with the new landscape stereo speakers with surround sound. Also new is the new Apple Silicon M2 chip. The iPhone maker claims it’s a whopping 50% faster than the M1 iPad Air.
It supports machine learning features such as visual search and better image processing capabilities. Apple claims it works with the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil. Moreover, it also supports the hover feature of Apple Pencil. The storage space has also been improved. Apple has ditched the paltry 64GB of storage and now comes with 128GB of storage as standard. The ceiling has also been raised, and the new iPad Air now supports up to 1 TB of storage space.
However, the iPad Air does not have Face ID, instead Touch ID is still supported. It also supports 5G connectivity.
iPad Air price and availability
Regardless of the storage space, the price of the iPad Air remains the same. The 11-inch iPad Air starts at $599, while the 13-inch version starts at $799. In India, the 11-inch iPad Air starts at Rs. 59900 for Wi-Fi model and Rs. 74900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. The 13-inch iPad Air starts at Rs. 79900 for Wi-Fi model and Rs. 94900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
Both versions go up for pre-order today, with delivery promised next week.
The new iPad Air is available in four color options – blue, starlight, purple and space gray.
