Paramount+ has canceled the live-action Halo series.
In 2013, renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg collaborated with Microsoft to develop a live-action Halo TV series. After a decade of anticipation, the show has been axed by Paramount+ after just seventeen episodes. The first season premiered in 2022, with the second following earlier this year. Despite our initial ambivalence towards the series, its cancellation marks a disappointing end to the high-profile production.
According to an unnamed Variety source, the show’s creators plan to shop the project and look for a new home with the Master Chief and Cortana chronicles. “We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who drove the Halo franchise to global success, and we remain committed to expanding the Halo universe in various ways in the future,” 343 Industries said. “We are grateful to Amblin and Paramount for their collaboration to bring our vast sci-fi universe to audiences around the world.”
This is the latest obstacle for UNSC fans to get more Halo action. Not only is the TV show gone, but Microsoft’s layoffs last year didn’t leave 343 Industries unscathed. The studio reportedly had to restart development on the next chapter in the series, and we haven’t heard much about the game since then.
