Super Gemini Synthesizer: A 20-Voice Beast Ideal for Crafting Unique Sounds

Pricing and availability details for the Super Gemini synthesizer from British instrument maker, Unidentified Dancing Objects (UDO), have been revealed. The device was first previewed at Superbooth 2023 and boasts impressive features such as a bi-timbral analog hybrid sound engine, dual-layer polyphony, and 20 voices. With the ability to play 20 notes simultaneously and combine sounds to create ten “super” voices, the Super Gemini offers a range of unique sound design options for both left and right stereo channels.

If you think this is a great option for comprehensive sound design, that’s the point. The stereo binaural signal path is equipped with effects processors, gate arrays and pedal jacks that allow for “sparkling frequency” and “shattering harmonics” that the company touts make the player great for creating both familiar and discordant soundscapes. It has 256 performance and patch slots and a whopping 64 switchable waveforms to start your sound design journey. Audio design options include waveform conversion, cross mod capabilities, two-way sync, and of course a fully analog signal path.

There are 16 editable patterns stored in the sequencer, and the exterior is equipped with two control systems that let you shape sounds in both channels simultaneously. The Super Gemini is sturdy, with an aluminum and steel exterior, and UDO notes that the knobs and levers received the same attention to detail. The 61-note keyboard is semi-weighted and features Polyphonic aftertouch, and the custom panel includes a ribbon controller for individual note articulation.

The Super Gemini follows the company’s well-received Super 6 synth, but improves on it in almost every way. The only downside to this? This is a professional synthesizer with high quality components, so it will pay you. UDO’s Super Gemini costs $4,200 and is available for pre-order now at several music retailers, although it won’t ship until October.
