Google Maps gets a new community feed in Explore
Google has updated Maps with new features and improvements as people adjust to the new normal. Google is now adding a new community feed to the Explore tab of Maps.
The community feed has all the latest reviews, photos, and posts added to Google Maps by local experts, as well as people you follow. It will also feature content from food and drink merchants and articles from publishers like The Infatuation. Google Maps will also show updates from restaurants you follow in your feed and recommend things to do in your area.
Google said it would also display location recommendations based on the food and drink preferences you assigned on Maps. You can also pan and zoom the map to get more details of the places you want to explore.
“Every day, people submit more than 20 million contributions, including recommendations for their favorite places, business service updates, new reviews and ratings, photos, answers to other people’s questions, updated addresses and more, Google said in a blog post.
The community feed will feature a mix of user, merchant, and publisher content. Google is also planning to show more posts from merchants in the community feed, as they are seen twice as much as before the feed existed. This will make it easier for users to find out if restaurants are open, if they have outdoor seating and more.
The Google Maps Community Feed is rolled out globally for all users on Android and iOS. You can view the tab in the Explore feed to view the new community feed.
