Elon Musk Announces Upcoming Launch of Twitter Video App for Smart TVs
According to its owner Elon Musk, Twitter appears to be considering the launch of a video app for smart TVs, as he stated that “It’s coming.”
Musk responded to a tweet suggesting the need for a Twitter video app with, “It’s coming.”
On Twitter, a user with the account name S-M Robinson said: “We really need a Twitter video app for smart TVs. I’m not going to watch an hour long video on Twitter.” To which Musk replied: “It’s coming.”
The user then tweeted: “I appreciate it. I see the day when I can cancel my YouTube subscription and not watch it anymore.”
Elon Musk is making several changes at Twitter, one of which is where the social media outlet will likely focus on video, creator and commerce partnerships, the New York Post reported, citing Reuters.
Earlier, Musk said that Twitter will soon start paying creators for the ads shown in their replies with a payment block of five million dollars.
“In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads shown in their replies. The first block payment will total $5 million. Note that the creator must be verified and only ads shown to verified users will count,” Musk tweeted on Saturday.
Twitter also came up with a new update where its verified members can upload 2-hour long videos.
Musk wrote on Twitter: “Twitter Blue Verified subscribers can now download 2 hours of videos (8GB)!”
According to the US Tech portal TechCrunch, Twitter has made changes to its paid plan and extended the previous 60-minute limit to two hours.
The company also modified its Twitter blue page, saying that the video file size limit for paid users has now been increased from 2GB to 8GB. Previously, downloading longer videos was only possible online, but now it is also possible through the iOS app. Despite these changes, the maximum download quality is still 1080p, reports TechCrunch. Shortly after Musk announced the news, several social media users flooded the comments section and shared their reactions.
One user wrote: “Twitter is the new Netflix.”
