Nothing Could Soon Unveil a Smartwatch in Addition to Phones

In a few weeks, Nothing Phone (2) will be released, but the company may already be developing another product. Nothing has applied for a trademark for a product that is believed to be a smartwatch. According to a tipster‘s report, the product has been identified as a smartwatch on India’s BIS certification website.

Nothing has worked for several products since its debut with the Ear (1) earbuds. We already have phone (1) on the market, and phone (2) is likely to be a more affordable option, focusing this year on markets like the US. News of the brand’s smartwatch hints at a growing product ecosystem that Carl Pei, founder of Nothing, has recently echoed.

Now that it has launched a phone and a wireless audio product, the next phase of wearables is understandably smartwatches. The fact that the listing of the product was spotted on the India office website means that this device will also be coming to the market.

Pei has definitely shown an interest in smartwatches and in a recent message he asked about the purpose of smartwatches. However, trademark registrations are done in such a way that other brands cannot bring products with the said name to the market, so Nothing’s plan may be to just lock the name and use it for a product later.

The brand will need to adapt its Nothing OS platform to make it more relevant for a smartwatch, and based on Pei’s observations, those possibilities cannot be completely ruled out. For now, Nothing is focusing on its next product, the Phone (2), which will launch on July 11 in India and the US, among others. The phone uses the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and comes with a new version of Nothing OS.
