Meta Launches Subscription Plan for VR Headsets
A new subscription service for virtual reality headsets is being launched by Meta Platforms Inc.
Meta Quest costs $7.99 per month for access to two games per month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on his Instagram channel on Monday.
The VR subscription is the latest way Meta is trying to monetize its headset after disappointing sales. In March, Meta reduced the prices of its VR headsets by up to 33%. In June, the company lowered the price of its Quest 2 headphones for the second time after announcing the release of the Quest 3, which will debut in September.
Meta continues to lose money on its VR ambitions. Last year, the company lost $13.7 billion in its Reality Labs division, which is part of the virtual reality technology company.
Meta VR subscription is available for Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
