Microsoft Could Introduce 3D Emojis to Windows 11 Users
After a considerable delay, Microsoft has at last unveiled its highly anticipated 3D emojis. The tech giant had initially announced its intention to introduce these emojis to users approximately two years ago. However, the development process has been ongoing since then. Finally, in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25905 to the Canary Channel, Microsoft has showcased the long-awaited emoji makeover for its users.
In a blog post, Microsoft says, “With the update of our color font format to COLRv1, Windows is now able to display richer emoji with a 3D-like appearance. Support is coming soon to some apps and browsers.” It further mentioned that these emojis use the gradient style to bring the design that Windows 11 users have been asking for. According to Microsoft, the new emoji brings more expression to communication.
Windows 11’s 3D emojis look like Microsoft Teams emoticons
Last year, Microsoft Teams had released new emoticons where the gradient style was created as a 3D effect. Surprisingly, the emojis recently introduced in the preview show similarities with the ones released in Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft emojis have come a long way! It seems that the earlier flat emojis served as temporary representations, while Microsoft devoted efforts to developing 3D versions. These updated emojis were later introduced in Microsoft Teams in early 2022. Users, especially those who expressed their disappointment with Windows 11’s flat and outdated designs that seemed reminiscent of Apple’s classic iOS era, have been waiting for Microsoft’s 3D emoji for a long time. , The Verge reported.
When will Windows 11 users try these new emoticons?
If you’re looking forward to using the new 3D emojis, here‘s the way! You can sign up for the Windows Insider program and get the latest build. You can download it here. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait for the testing phase to begin to see the gradual rollout of 3D emojis in the future.
