Apple products are adored by individuals, with iPhones reigning supreme. This adoration extends beyond just the latest models, as people are willing to splurge on older versions too. A recent auction witnessed the sale of a pristine 2007 Apple iPhone, still sealed in its original packaging, for an astounding $158,000 (approximately Rs 1,29,80,000).
According to a report by 9to5mac, which auctioned LCG, it was an extremely rare model. The iPhone sold was the 4GB version of the 2007 Apple iPhone, which was only produced for a couple of months. The device was put up for auction in June.
Bidding started at $10,000 on June 30 and soon reached its peak of $42,000. The auction eventually became intense with bids rising from $67,000 to a final price of $158,644. And compared to the 4GB model’s original price of $499, that’s about a 318-fold increase in value over the past 16 years, according to the report.
A report revealed that this rare iPhone came from a former Apple engineer who worked on the smartphone.
