US YouTube Premium Subscription Rates Increase for the First Time

YouTube, the video streaming platform owned by Google, has increased the prices of its monthly and annual premium plans in the United States. This marks the first time the subscription service has seen a price hike since its launch in 2018.

The YouTube Premium plan would cost $13.99 a month in the U.S., up $2 from previously, according to the company’s website Thursday. The price of its annual plan was increased by $20 to $139.99.

According to YouTube, members who subscribed five years ago, including those who originally signed up through Google Play, would get three more months of subscription at the old price.

In April, YouTube introduced new features to its premium users, including hosting Google Meet sessions so they can watch videos on the platform together with other users.

It has also raised YouTube Music prices by $1 to $10.99 in the US. The change follows similar price increases for Amazon Music, Apple Music and Tidal.
