Honda is focusing on electric SUVs.News

Possibility of Honda E Compact Electric Car Receiving Sequel Uncertain

Honda’s E electric car was made available for purchase in Europe and Japan during the summer of 2020, providing an emission-free alternative for individuals seeking a charming and compact vehicle. However, it seems that this retro-designed EV might be the sole model of its kind, as Honda does not appear to have any intentions of manufacturing additional cars of similar dimensions. During the unveiling of Honda’s new electric SUV, e:Ny1, Rebecca Adamson, an executive at Honda UK, assured Autocar that there are no plans for future vehicles in the size range of the Honda E.

Adamson also said that Honda decided to focus on electric SUVs because there is market demand in the UK. “It’s a market-driven lineup. As long as the market is there, we’ll continue to be SUV-driven,” the executive said. In fact, the car has several SUVs in its current lineup, soon to be joined by the e:Ny1. At a company briefing in April, Honda also said it is building a mid-size electric car based on the e:Architecture platform that will go on sale in North America in 2025. In another hint that Honda plans to focus on electric SUVs, it said it will develop its vehicle’s operating system with mid-size and small electric cars.

The Honda E was relatively well received for its stylish looks, but it has a small battery and a fairly short range of 137 miles. It was intended only for urban and suburban use, not for long stretches of road with no charging stations in sight. As for the e:Ny1, it’s a compact SUV with a range of 256 miles and a fast charging feature that allows it to go from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes. It is only the brand’s second pure electric car after the Honda E, which is coming to the European market.
