OnePlus Foldable Phone Launch May Be Postponed For A Positive Reason

OnePlus has officially announced its intention to venture into the foldable market, with the upcoming device named the OnePlus Open. Although the company initially planned to release the product this month, recent reports indicate that OnePlus has chosen to postpone the launch of its foldable device. The unveiling of the OnePlus Open, originally scheduled for August 29, may now be delayed further due to new developments.

OnePlus is paying close attention to the basics of its foldable product, and reports suggest that the company has made a last-minute decision to switch display manufacturers from BOE to Samsung panels. It’s likely that OnePlus felt that the performance of the BOE display was not up to par with its product, and therefore using a Samsung panel seemed like an obvious decision.

Testing of the OnePlus Open on a Samsung display seems to have already started and we should probably get more updates from the brand in the coming weeks, in preparation for the big launch event.

OnePlus first announced its foldable goal with the launch of the OnePlus 11 series earlier this year in India. The company has also said that the Open foldable will be launched in countries like India, which is one of its most important markets. The Oppo-run brand has also expanded into a number of other categories this year, having launched the first premium OnePlus tablet and also a mechanical keyboard in partnership with Keychron.

The OnePlus Open leaks have given us a good idea of the company’s focus now that it’s expected to be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. OnePlus could opt for a 2K AMOLED display courtesy of Samsung, which should offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus could use its Hasselblad partnership to power the cameras, but more importantly, pack a larger battery that supports fast charging. The OnePlus Open will compete with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and a host of other foldable devices, including the upcoming Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
