Elon Musk Suggests He May Require Surgery Before Engaging in a Cage Match with Mark Zuckerberg
Elon Musk’s potential surgery raises further uncertainty about his anticipated clash with Mark Zuckerberg, potentially delaying the battle between the outspoken billionaires.
Musk stated on X (formerly Twitter) Sunday night that he will have an MRI of his neck and upper back today. He’ll find out later this week if he needs surgery before going toe-to-toe with Zuckerberg, which is definitely not an attempt to get a medical certificate to weasel out of a duel.
Exact date is still in flux. I’m getting an MRI of my neck & upper back tomorrow.
May require surgery before the fight can happen. Will know this week.

The surgery not only postpones that battle indefinitely, but could affect Musk’s work at his various companies. As CNBC points out, Tesla’s stock price fell more than two percent Monday morning. In addition to running the automaker, Musk is also the owner and chief technical officer of X and CEO of SpaceX.
The date of the planned match had not been confirmed. Zuckerberg said he suggested a fight night on Aug. 26, but claimed Musk had not responded. “I’m not holding my breath,” Meta’s CEO wrote on Threads.
Both men have been training for potential showdowns and needling each other publicly in the meantime. If and when that happens, Musk said the fight will be streamed on X, with all proceeds going to veterans’ charities. Zuckerberg couldn’t resist mocking Musk for this too. “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?” he asked.
