Realme shipped 42 million smartphones in 2020
Realme today announced that it will ship 42 million smartphones in 2020. The company said today that it has secured seventh place in the global smartphone market and has been named the fastest growing brand of the year by Counterpoint Research in the final quarter of 2020.
The same report from the research firm also said that Realme grew 65% year-on-year in shipping volume in the fourth quarter of 2020. This is significantly less than in 2019, where it grew by 417%. This, however, is due to the Covid-19 pandemic which has resulted in an overall drop in smartphone shipments across the world. The global smartphone market was down 1% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2020. However, the market grew 8% in QoQ in the fourth quarter of 2020, recovering from the global impact of COVID-19, wrote the research company in its latest report.
Realme’s shipments have grown from 25.7 million in 2019 to 42.4 million in 2020. As for the overall market share, it has increased from 2% in 2019 to 3% in 2020.
Turning to the last quarter of 2020, Realme shipped 14 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2020. It shipped 7.8 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2019. Interestingly, despite the pandemic, Realme’s market share is increased from 2% to 4% over the same period. However, its growth fell from 80% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2019 to -5% quarter-on-quarter.
