eSignatures Beta Testing Begins on Google Docs
Google users will soon have a useful feature available in Docs. The company has begun beta testing the platform’s eSignature option, preventing people from using other doc apps to access the feature. This tool allows users to digitally sign documents and important letters without having to print and scan the document.
Google introduced the feature to select users last year, but the beta version is now available for more Workspace accounts. Google Docs allows people to request a single electronic signature from another person that includes fields such as signature, initials, and name. Google automatically fills in the date signature section.
Apps like Adobe have offered the feature for a while now, and people have been begging for Google to bring support to Docs, and in the coming months it will roll out to more people. Google also offers a status check for these e-signatures so you can track whether an important document has been signed or not. In addition to Docs, Google is also bringing the feature to Drive, which allows people to seamlessly link their eSignatures to documents without switching to another platform.
Google’s built-in eSignature feature is limited to Gmail users for now. Google says non-Gmail users will get support later this year, which doesn’t give us a clear timeline. Google’s Workspace is a paid service, and the post only mentions a feature available to those users, so we’re not sure if free Gmail users will ever get this option.
Google Docs is very useful for many people because they can manage documents in real time and share them with people. It’s great to see Google bringing the feature to Docs and Drive, but there’s a lot more that users need, and we hope Google offers them in the near future.
