IIT Madras Offers Certificate Program Without Requiring JEE or GATE Scores

IIT Madras has recently introduced an online certification course called ‘Additive Manufacturing Technologies for Practising Engineers’. The course will be accessible through the Center for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE). About Additive Manufacturing course offered by IIT Madras

According to the CODE publication. additive manufacturing is a popular field that offers an attractive way to manufacture a variety of technical and biomedical components. The course has huge potential to modify the manufacturing process for the production of small-scale complex body implants with special customized designs.

The course covers pre- and post-processing methods, basics, design strategies for additive manufacturing, operating principles, processes and much more in six modules.

The learning goals of the course are to teach the process chain of AM technologies through practical training, the use of AM technologies in different engineering industries, to understand the impact of AM technologies on product design and development and much more.

The course material consists of 24 hours of interactive online sessions with teachers and 72 hours of recorded videos. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion from IIT Madras.

Dr. Murugaiyan Amirthalingam, Associate Professor, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras, said, “This course is aimed at engineers and mid-level managers who have not had any classroom training in the field of additive manufacturing. The course aims to provide both fundamentals and applied knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies. Those who wish to take implement different AM technologies in their workplace, can benefit from this course.

Eligibility criteria

The course can be applied by those who have completed a degree in technology or a university of applied sciences or a bachelor’s degree in basic sciences and have at least 3 years of work experience. The course and live classes start on 2 October 2023 and the last day to register for the course is 20 September.
